æternity is a public, open-source blockchain protocol that enables a platform for next-generation decentralized applications and high scalability. Its core components are written in the functional programming language Erlang, and its smart contracts are also functional. æternity has a stellar team of developers including Robert Virding - co-creator of Erlang, John Hughes - co-designer of Haskell, and Ulf Norell - co-designer of the Agda programming language for formal verification.
Unlike other blockchain platforms, the æternity protocol itself incorporates several essential technological features. State channels for off-chain scaling, oracles for real-world information, and a naming system for increased user-friendliness are all implemented on Layer 1. æternity also features SDKs in Javascript, GO, Phyton, Java, as well as a middleware and a development suite that streamline smart contract development.
DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS
The æternity Universe One conference will feature development workshops on the topics of:
How and why to run an æternity node
How to mine AE tokens
How to develop Sophia smart contracts for beginners
How to develop Sophia smart contracts for advanced users
UNIVERSE ONE HÆCKATHON
An open hackathon will be organized on September 14-15, during the weekend before the æternity Universe One conference. The event will allow anyone to propose and develop æpps that make use of æternity’s unique technological stack and compete for three prizes.
The Hæckathon will be a fast-paced, intense crash course in blockchain technology. Participants will have 48 hours to learn how to make use of æternity’s platform and developer tools and use them to their applications’ advantage.
The æpps that get developed will be presented during the conference. Remote participation will be possible.
agenda
The æternity Universe One conference will span two days and focus on bridging the gap between what businesses need and what blockchain technology can offer.

STATE CHANNELS ÆPP
During the æternity Universe One conference, attendees will have the opportunity to use a mobile æpp powered by æternity’s state channels technology. The æpp will allow anyone to purchase various items at the conference privately with zero fees and in real time.
State channels enable much more than improved payments functionality. They allow users to freely run smart contracts privately off-chain, empowering a new generation of lightning-fast decentralized applications dedicated to a mainstream audience.
SHOWCASE YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE TO A COMMUNITY OF BUILDERS AND DOERS
THE GRAFFITI PROJECT ÆPP
æternity Universe One will feature the Graffiti Project - a live, collaborative, interactive, token-driven art installation based on æternity technology.
Using the Graffiti Project æpp, æternity Universe One participants will be able to upload creative content leveraging the blockchain’s core feature of a public, immutable record. This allows an otherwise temporary local artwork to become immortalized and accessible to a global audience.
The Graffiti Project establishes an innovative creative medium, enabling a supranational community to collaborate on digital artworks. The artworks are secured by a decentralized, censorship-resistant, transparent platform where they will remain unchanged and open to all, for æternity.
Try out the Graffiti Project æpp during Universe One and join us in creating a blockchain-secured artwork.
Follow the Graffiti Project on Instagram and Twitter and get the latest updates.
The project is made possible with the support of the æternity crypto foundation. In creative partnership with Crypto Art Lab, Martin Gremse and YAIR.
